What About Adults - Can Adult have Braces?

The answer is YES! Orthodontics is not just for children and adolescents. Many patients receive orthodontic treatment as adults, in fact, it is reported that one in every five orthodontic patients are over twenty-one (21) years of age. As an Orthodontist, Dr. West is experienced in providing orthodontic care for all ages of patients.

As we age things change, including the position of our teeth. Some adults may not have been able to complete orthodontic treatment as a child for various reasons, but that does not prohibit them from pursuing treatment at a later age. Adult orthodontic treatment will help improve their appearance and maintain their oral health for their lifetime.

What Are Indicators that an Adult Needs Orthodontic Care?

Sometimes an adult decides they would like to correct a tooth position that has become a concern or their dentist has advised them of a particular dental problem that is occurring. Some of the problems that present a concern are:

  • Missing or worn teeth that cause a shift in or incorrect fit of their bite
  • Occurrence or re-occurrence of crowding – especially in the lower anterior teeth
  • Spaces between their teeth that detract from their smile
  • Poor position of teeth needing restorations or are causing “Periodontal” concerns
  • Difficulty cleaning their teeth due to poor tooth positions and crowding
  • Desiring an improved SMILE to boost their self esteem and confidence
